MEDUSA GREEK MYTH

We all know Medusa as a hideous monster but it wasn’t always like that, in the beginning. Back in Athens there lived the 3 daughters of Zoos. They were the princesses of the ocean. Medusa was a beautiful woman, but she wasn’t like that on the inside, she was very ugly in the inside. One day she was at the Parthenon which is dedicated to Athena, God of wisdom. One God came next to Medusa and he started to fight with her. Athena didn’t allow it, she blamed Medusa and told her that she was very selfish.” You will have wings of the devil, your body will be filled with spikes of a beast, your white skin will be as black and burnt as ashes, your legs will be turned into a snake’s tail and your black hair will be turned into poison snakes, so they will sting you for the rest of eternity.” But the curse wasn’t over yet it also said that who ever looks into your dreaded eyes will turn to cold dead stone and with this Medusa was cursed.
One day, Medusa was in the forest, she saw a man and went next to him, when he looked into her eyes he turned to stone. She started to cry, but then this curse became her hobby. There was a beautiful garden, which she decided to turn into a graveyard dedicated to the people who were turned to stone. Persius was poor and his mother had to marry the king of men kind he didn’t want his mother to marry him the king told him “you have to give me something that no king had.” The boy was poor but he taught if he kills the Medusa he will have her head and no king had that. Many days past while he was in his search. Finally he found her and he cut off her head and put it in a bag.
When persius saw her mother about to be wed he told the king “I have your gift “and he took Medusa’s head out of the bag and the king turned to stone. The lesson in this story is that people who are selfish like Medusa and the king always lose their battles.

The word “Nadur” which in Maltese means “lookout”, is derived from the Arabic word nadara. The town’s motto means much the same.

There are no documents or archaeological evidence which could shed light on the colonization of Nadur by its first inhabitants. Nevertheless, the plateau and its surroundings, with a few farmhouses scattered here and there, were in existence for many years well before the area became a parish . The only trace of archaeological evidence were a number of large flat stones found in a field between San Blas Bay and Daħlet Qorrot. According to the Gozitan historian G. P. F. Agius de Soldanis these roofed structures, which are not in existence anymore, once used to serve as a sort of temple to the gods. He also imagined that these slabs of stone couldn’t have been placed there by normal people but by very strong people or giants. He also wrote that Nadur may have been founded during the time of the Greeks. One proof of this connection is a bronze statue of Apollo said to be found in Nadur in 1744.
Throughout history Nadur played a very important role in the defense of the island from corsairs, hence the name. During the reign of the Knights of St. John, a watch tower was built by Grand Master Nicholas Cotoner which has been referred to by Dahlet Qorrot Tower or San Blas Tower for the two bays lying on either side of it. The tower is locally known as Ta’ Sopu Tower.
Another watchtower found in Nadur is Ta’ Kenuna Tower built by the British towards the middle of the 19th century. It served as a telegraph link between Malta and Gozo. From the top of this semaphore tower, one can see most of the island, Comino and the northern part of Malta.

One day you were really naughty. Say what you did.
That day is still vivid in my mind. I wanted to be adventurous and I did succeed!
During the summer holidays of two years ago, I went for a ride on my bike with my best friend who is my neighbour too. So far so good because with our parents’ permission we always went for a ride in the neighbourhood. But I felt particularly bold and wanted to do something daring. So while we were passing by a peach orchard, I urged my friend to leave our bikes, climb over the rubble wall and have a nice fruit snack. My friend was not enthusiastic about this idea, but the ripe, inviting peaches were irresistible. So we went in to enjoy the fruit. But not for long because I bit hard on a peach, hit the stone and one of my front teeth cracked. The broken piece fell on my hand and I was very shocked.
Immediately, we left for home at the greatest speed possible. I had to confess what I did to my mum who instantly rushed me to the dentist.
I can tell you it was not an enjoyable experience neither at the dentist nor mum’s look, not to mention the punishment I was given. By the way, peaches are no longer my favourite fruit!

We were all quietly watching television when……….. suddenly I heard a noise coming from the basement. I told my mum about it but she said she didn`t hear anything. I told dad that I was going down to the basement and I went. Because I was scared I turned on all the lights on the way down to the basement. When I got their and turned the lights to my horror I saw……….
Two cages were on the table. In one of them was a creature half koala bear half monkey. In the other cage was a creature half little kangaroo, half rabbit. I was rooted to the spot and my face, body and legs turned into ice. I screamed one of my biggest screams and after about seven seconds my whole family came rushing down the stairs. Mum was first but when she looked and saw what were in the cages she stopped and burst into tears. When dad came he too stopped but did not cry. Then when she stopped crying I asked her why she had been crying and she told us that the two creatures that were in the cages had once been her friends. She told us that a witch had quarelled with her and then turned her friends into unknown creatures and that was why my mum began crying. After a while the creatures vanished and we went upstairs to continue to watch the program.
From that day on I began to believe in witches and I am typing this composition to remind you of it.
