In-Nadur

Il-parroċċa tan-Nadur

Biex in-Nadur sar parroċċa kellu ħafna problemi fuq ħafna affarijiet. Fl-1842 infetħet ukoll l-iskola Primarja tan-Nadur u l-ewwel surmast kien Dun Salv Vella. Dawn il-problemi kienu f’tama ta’ ġejjieni aħjar. Kienet l-aqwa parroċċa f’Għawdex dak iż-żmien.

Clean Up The World

Fl-attivita’ li għamilna nhar l-Erbg]a 28 t’Ottubru 2009 inżilna fil-bajja ta’ Ħondoq biex nitgħallmu u nifhmu kif għandna nżommu nadif kullimkien. L-attivita’ ‘Clean up the World’ saret bl-għajnuna ta’ ħafna nies. Sar tindif fuq l-art kif ukoll taħt il-baħar minn bugħaddasa. Fl-esperjenza ta’ din sena, meta naddafna, tgħallimna ħafna u swiet ta’ ġid għalina biex ma nħammġux u biex nħallu madwarna nadif.

Il-baħar ta’ madwarna

Il-baħar jagħmel tliet kwarti tad-dinja.
Il-baħar għandna nżommuh nadif u ma nħammġuhx għax fis-sajf
aħna nistgħu nimirdu meta mmorru ngħumu.
Il-baħar hu wieħed mill-isbaħ passatempi li hawn għax fih
tirrilassa u tħaddem kull muskolu ta’ ġismek.

CAUGHT IN THE RAIN

CAUGHT IN THE RAIN

We are in the month of October. It is a month when the weather changes a lot. Some days are sunny and others are humid with occasional rain showers which sometimes become heavy and thundery.

It was a fine, sunny Sunday afternoon, when my family and I decided to pay a visit to our grandma. She was so happy to see us again! We had lunch at her house and after some time we headed back to our home because mum and dad wanted to see a film. At about half past three I went with my friends to a playground in Gudja. In the blink of an eye, the sky turned grey and the wind started to blow as hard as it could. Then it started to rain heavily. Although I had an umbrella I still got soaked wet. I was chilly cold. There were thunder and lightning. Lightning struck and all of a sudden we were in the middle of a thunderstorm.

 A rainy day

We tried to find somewhere to hide, till the rain stops. I was the only one that had an umbrella and it was broken by the wind.  It rained like cats and dogs! The streets were flooded with water and my socks got as wet as a puddle. I was scared!  My clothes got wetter and dirtier. After a while, I heared my cellphone ringing and it was my mum. She was worried, even dad, so he came to pick up my friends and me. That was the end of the day at the playground!

After that terrible afternoon I arrived home safe and sound. I took a warm, relaxing bath and wore warm, dry clothes. After a while I put on the kettle to make some hot chocolate.  I snuggled on the sofa and drank that warm cup of delicious hot chocolate.  As I looked out from the window, I saw a lovely rainbow, which was a sight for my sore eyes.

Tomatoes

There are few vegetables that better mark the summer months than the sweet juiciness of a vine-ripened tomato. Although tomatoes are now available all year Tomato headround, the truly wonderful qualities of tomatoes are the best when they are in the season - from July through September.

Tomatoes have fleshy internal segments filled with slippery seeds surrounded by a watery matrix. They can be  red, yellow, green, purple or brown in color. Although tomatoes are fruits in a botanical sense, they don’t have the dessert quality sweetness of other fruits. Instead  they have a subtle sweetness that is complemented by a slightly bitter and an acidic taste. Cooking tempers the acid and bitter qualities in tomatoes and brings out their warm, rich, sweetness.bread-1

The Journey of the tomato

tomato-1Tomatoes started in Peru, then came to Europe and in Malta. In Xewkija Ghawdex, there is a big tomato factory.

In the factory, they make tomato paste, tomato juice and ketcup in bottles and cans. A tomato is a fruit not a vegetable. The tomato is a healthy fruit. Tomatoes grow  in plants on the ground . People can make many recipes with tomatoes such as sauces for pasta. Tomato plants typically reach the height of  about 50cm. Tomatoes are full of seeds inside them.

There are many types and sizes of tomatoes. The specific name  of the tomato is ’lycopersicum’ meaning wolf-peach.

I wish that tomatoes wouldn’t stop growing, because I like them so much and they are a good source of vitamins for our hearts.tomato-2

Two children on Filfla.

Two children called Joseph and Gabriella went to discover all about Filfla. When they arrived lizardthey found a lot of lizards. The lizards were black. The children were afraid that a rock was going to fall and hurt them because  Filfla has a lot of rocks and stones on top of it.

The children also saw two different kinds of birds - the Cory’s shearwater and the yellow-legged gull. When the yellow-legged gull flew over their heads, the lizards went to hide into the rocks.

Some time later, the children were eating their lunch. A tomato fell off and a lizard came out to gull1eat it. Just then, a yellow-legged gull flew by and one lizard went to hide. It fell in the sea by mistake. The yellow-legged gull dived into the sea to catch the lizard. I just couldn’t leave the lizard in the water so I rescued it as fast as I could.

That’s why people aren’t allowed to go on Filfla anymore, because the lizards that live on Filfla are of a special kind which cannot be found elsewhere.
